About The Artist
Jon Arsenault recieved his BFA in Ceramics from East Carolina University in 1996 and moved to Asheville where he worked for Bernwell Pottery in Hendersonville and was a resident artist at the Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts. Since leaving Odyssey Center he has participated in numerous workshops and assistantships at Penland School for the Craft located in Penland, North Carolin, where he also worked for a well known furniture maker turned home builder named Doug Sigler. During this time he helped design or build four kilns, one of which is located on his property. From 2003-2007 Jon was the gallery coordinator for Artemisia Gallery and LG Gallery in Asheville where he organized shows and events for artists from the area. Jon is currently working out of his home and studio located in Youngs Cove in Candler, North Carolina where he produces work for the wholesale and retail market.
About the work
Jons' work has been featured in publications such as "The Complete Guide to High Fire Glazes" by John Britt and "500 pitchers" published by Lark Publishing. Over the years his work has been shown at many venues such as The "Folk Art Center" in Asheville, North Carolina, the "Asheville Area Arts Council","Mudfire Gallery" in Atlanta and as far away as Saamaiis Galleriia in Tallin, Estonia. His current work is high fired reduction stoneware using porcelain slip and layered glazes. He fires in a downdraft style kiln and fuels it with propane to reach cone 10 (approximately 2,385 degrees farenheit).
